After testing our same cups with hot (it was really warm) water, we are seeing that the features that are good for keeping a liquid cold are the same for keeping a liquid warm! One big difference we see is that hot liquids drop a big amount of temperature compared to a cold liquid warming up. We had so many questions about this...and really want to know more of why this happens!
We summarized our thinking, which brought out more questions about what heat really is, what cold actually is, and the roles of both the air and starting temperatures. Man, what we thought was fairly simple is proving to be more complicated than we thought!

Since we agreed that the lid is playing the biggest role in the difference between cold and hot things, we're going to explore more of what the lid does knowing we think it's air or steam that's leaving the liquid.
