After spending four years at Alcott, it is with extreme sadness that I want to inform you that I have accepted another science teaching position closer to my home within CPS. I am excited about this opportunity to be teaching 5th and 6th grade science at Sauganash Elementary School. It was an incredibly difficult decision to make for many reasons, but to say that I am going to miss Alcott is an understatement.
First and foremost, Alcott graciously welcomed me four years ago. Mr. Estrada, Mrs. Bodine, the Friends of Alcott, my science colleagues past and present, and my beloved teaching team accepted my passion for science education and let me run with it, no questions asked. I am forever grateful that everyone supported me through all the professional experiences I wanted to pursue, the freedom and trust to make curricular decisions, and cheered me on when I received honors I only dreamed I would earn.
Secondly, I am thankful that the Alcott community (students, parents, colleagues and administration) supported my drive to be a part of national research projects committed to advancing science education (NextGen Science Storylines and PAGES: Progressing through the Ages: Global Change, Evolution, and Societal well-being). Positive change happens when many people see this vision. Thank you for supporting this incredibly important work.
And lastly, Alcott has and always will hold a special place in my heart in regards to my family. Thank you to everyone who showed immense compassion, understanding, and kindness.
To all the students who have had me, thank you for letting me be your science teacher. Continue to figure things out. You will be more than missed.
