Science teaching brings me pure joy.
A native east-coaster, I ventured out to the Midwest post-college spending time in a variety of educational settings. I worked at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum/ Chicago Academy of Sciences and then entered Chicago Public Schools for fourteen years, working at a variety of schools, learning from a diverse group of students and teachers. While in Chicago, I earned my Masters degree and took endless coursework in math and science to further my content knowledge. During the 2015-2016 school year, I was a part of the MSU-Urban STEM and Leadership Fellowship, which was amazing! Two years later (SY 2017-2018), I was a Sustainability Fellow with the program, expanding my leadership capacity. I continue to learn about the Next Generation Science Standards' role in my classroom, and continue to work with the Next Gen Storylines, PAGES, and OpenSciEd projects as both an author, pilot teacher, and research participant. |
During the 2017-2018 school year, I was honored to receive the IL STEM Educator (K-5) Award along with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Award (K-6th Science, 2016). Both these awards are a true testament to the people who have guided and helped shape into in the teacher I am today--from colleagues and administrators past and present, to students and their families, to my own family. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am honored and humbled to be a part of the PAEMST awardees!
During the summer of 2021, my family left Chicago and ventured west. I just wrapped up my first year working at Louisville Middle School in the Boulder Valley School District! ❤️️
