It's been an exciting adventure as we've launched into our third unit of the year with something that Mrs. Brinza's own children use all the time in the bath tub--bath bombs! We explored what happened with both store-bought and homemade bath bombs, comparing the two!
We then began comparing out experiences between the store-bought bath bomb and the four different homemade ones, and here's what each of the 6th grade classes came up with:
We're seeing some patterns between the bath bombs, and the biggest one we've noticed is the appearance of bubbles. As students grappled with their thoughts, we created individual models and then a class consensus. There seems to be two different ideas emerging between the two classes: the gas was inside the bath bomb to start with before it hit the water OR it was created new somehow (maybe from what was there or maybe it randomly appeared)!
All this thinking around "gases/bubbles" appearing made us think of other experiences or event that happen similarly to this. Here's the list we came up with!
