What a great distraction the chicks are! We're taking care of them and watching them grow each day. Here's a quick recap on all 24 eggs:
1. We lost 5 eggs somehow during the incubation period. We noticed this as we candled them and decided to open them and display them for viewing at our STEM Fair. It was interesting to see where these chicks were at in their development.
2. We had 16 eggs hatch and are doing well. We had a scare with one egg that had its leg stuck for awhile (like almost 24+ hours), but Mrs. Bates (primary science) helped with its hatch. "Jambito" is doing well now, although just a little smaller than the others! All these chicks are growing--eating, drinking, and pooping (a lot).
3. There are 3 eggs that have no signs of pips in the incubator. We think it's safe to say that these eggs are also ones we've lost. We haven't had a conversation yet about what we will do with them.
