To launch our next unit of study, Mrs. Brinza has been noticing a trend pop up in her FB newsfeed. More and more people are raising chickens in their backyards...including a friend that she's recently connected with.
This got us thinking about the various reasons why people raise chickens...including for their eggs, their meat, to help with their yard maintenance, or maybe to keep as pets. While there's reason to have chickens, there are lots of other reasons why people avoid having them, including the mess they might make, the cost, or the attraction of other animals (predators) that might reek havoc!
But with all this discussion, out came a huge wondering...
Why is it that some eggs become chickens and other eggs become the eggs we eat?
We began developing some initial models for this scientific phenomenon and will put our thinking into a group consensus making discussion tomorrow! We've also began asking a TON of questions, so we'll be setting up our DQB soon!
