With all the differences in our models, the questions began rolling in!  Little did students know they were constructing the Driving Question Board by submitting questions to Mrs. Brinza via Pear Deck.  After compiling all the questions, we ended up with some incredible wonderings!  

Students are always hearing how everyone's ideas matter, but it's even better when they can SEE this. Asking everyone to identify a question they valued with a thumbs-up overlay in PearDeck, we quickly saw how so many of our questions wanted to be answered by everyone in both 5th grade classes.  Talk about a community effort!  We are really valuing each others' work.  Happy teacher here!

With all these questions, we've now got to figure out how we're going to answer them!  Check back next week!

With all these similarities around our cleaning processes, we agreed it would be simple to create an initial model for where the clean water came from that helped us wash  something.  And it also would be fairly easy to model where the water went.

BOY WERE WE WRONG!

We had so many ideas surrounding where our clean water comes from and where it goes once we make it dirty...

After looking at various models, we agreed that we didn't really have an agreement (ha!)!  We mapped out our thinking in Jamboard to look like this:

Fifth graders have been doing such a wonderful job with remote learning. We shared out things that have been filling our buckets alongside sharing things that have been draining them...

We've even acknowledged that our parents seem more stressed now, too.  So we decided to help them (even just a little bit) by committing to washing something around the house/apartment.  And boy, did helping them out fill everyone's buckets!

Little did 5th graders know that this kind gesture would be the launch of our first unit of the year!  Everyone got a chance to share in PearDeck how they helped and we discussed how similar/different some students' cleaning processes were:

We recognized that we had lots in common between our processes and lots that was different.  But we all agreed we started with clean water and ended up with it being dirty!
