We decided to share all our knowledge about the eggs and the chicks with the youngest of students in our building--the Pre-K students! They had a blast learning about how chicks hatch, the eggs, and how the chicks eat, drink, and even poop! Students had a chance to pet the chicks, too!
Sadly, we also returned the chicks to the farm today, too. There were certainly a lot of chicks there! Mrs. Brinza met the farmer who has a family run poultry farm. All of the chickens there are used for producing eggs which he sells locally for $2 a dozen. He also showed Mrs. Brinza how to tell the difference between males and females. When hung upside down, the roosters will fight being held upside down and kind of curl up, whereas the females don't fight it and just hang low!
Our next steps are to be looking more closely at where we think things start to happen with the chick development inside a fertilized egg...stay tuned!
